Field Notes from the Ranch

All is Calm

What a rollercoaster this ag life is. I’ve been rocking out in our 40ft freezer all day while packing orders for Walla Walla and Spokane deliveries this weekend, and being plumb tickled when I grabbed an empty box from last year to repack for this year and the timing is just so, so that it fills back up for the same human, or perhaps their parent or friend. ⁣

Honestly the first half of this year almost killed me. We worked more hours than most of you would believe, and we really didn’t know if it was all worth it or if we would even make it financially. We still don’t know the be-all end-all answers to that, but dang if I didn’t just step out into the most outrageous scene... ⁣

Music still floating out of my speaker, I was met with a baby blue and lavender sunset, the sheep and cattle grazing, the meat ducks swimming, our pet ducks heading somewhere intently (as they do) with their ducklings in tow, our dogs all lounging in peace, piglets scurrying, the pasture thick and green, a light breeze and the barn buildings looking endearing not old. ⁣

Remind me of this moment when I need it, okay?
